Oneida County, NY town and county property tax due dates and penalties
Short answer: In Oneida County, town and county taxes are collected by your town’s tax collector in January with no penalty through January 31, then 1% in February and 1.5% plus a $2 fee in March; after March 31 they are paid to Oneida County Finance in Utica. Cities and school districts follow their own calendars.
Town and county taxes: January to March
Town and county taxes are on one bill, sent by the town tax collector (or receiver of taxes). In the 2026 collection season the towns we checked took payments without penalty through January 31: the Town of Vienna accepted payment in person or with a U.S. postal mark of January 31, and the Town of Whitestown collected from January 2 to January 31.
After January 31 the penalties step up. Vienna: 1% in February, then 1.5% plus a $2.00 rebilling fee in March. Whitestown: $2.00 plus 1% in February, $2.00 plus 1.5% in March. The $2 fee starts in different months in different towns, so use the amounts on your own bill.
After March 31
Taxes not paid to the town by March 31 are delinquent and are paid to Oneida County Finance, 800 Park Avenue, Utica (Oneida County Office Building). Call Finance at (315) 798-5753 for the amount due, and delinquent taxes can be paid through the county’s online payment site.
Who to pay
Each town has its own tax collector with its own address and hours; many are open only a few days a week in January, some by appointment or in a drop box. The county publishes a yearly list of every town’s collector, mailing address and in-person hours (see sources). Check it before you go or mail a check.
City and school taxes are separate
The City of Utica and the City of Rome send their own city and school bills on their own calendars (see our Utica and Rome due-date guides). School taxes for town properties are collected in the fall; see our guide to when property taxes are due across Central New York.
